Paycheck & Take-Home

Paycheck Calculator

Estimate 2026 take-home pay from a salary, hourly wage, or gross paycheck. Federal withholding uses Publication 15-T, then FICA and one state's method. This is an estimate, not a tax determination.

What this estimate includes

This is a 2026 paycheck estimate for someone whose work state and home state are the same. It uses Publication 15-T's annualized percentage method for federal income tax, employee Social Security and Medicare, and one state method: California Method B, New York's annual schedule, Illinois IL-700-T, or no state income tax for Texas and Florida. It does not include a 401(k), health insurance, a bonus, or a second state.

Each state has a guide: California, New York, Illinois, Texas, Florida. The form above estimates the same five states on one page.

New York$2,223.29$295.00$220.68$131.99$13.66
Illinois$2,231.72$295.00$220.68$137.22not estimated
Texas$2,368.94$295.00$220.68$0.00not estimated
Florida$2,368.94$295.00$220.68$0.00not estimated

FICA is Social Security, Medicare, and Additional Medicare on this paycheck. "Not estimated" means this calculator does not include an employee disability or family-leave deduction for that state. It is not a statement that the deduction is zero. New York's figure includes permitted SDI and Paid Family Leave, and no city tax.

A federal baseline, with no state income tax

Single, $75,000 a year, paid every two weeks, no state allowances, with Texas selected because Texas has no personal income tax. The federal and FICA lines are the same in Florida.

Federal baseline at $75,000

Step 2 is not checked. There is no Step 3 credit and no Step 4 amount.

Federal withholding follows IRS Publication 15-T (tax year 2026), Worksheet 1A, annualized. Annual wages are $75,000.00. Worksheet line 1g is $8,600.00, so the adjusted annual wage is $66,400.00. That wage falls in the standard percentage table row from $57,900.00 to $113,200.00. The row's base is $5,800.00 and its rate is 22%. Tentative annual federal tax is $7,670.00. Annual federal income tax before any per-paycheck extra withholding is $7,670.00.

Social Security is 6.2% of wages up to $184,500, which is $4,650.00 here. Medicare is 1.45% of all wages, $1,087.50. Additional Medicare is 0.9% of wages over $200,000, which is $0.00.

State income tax is $0.00 because Texas has no personal income tax. Employee disability withholding is not estimated for Texas.

Gross pay$2,884.62$75,000.00
Federal income tax$295.00$7,670.00
Social Security$178.85$4,650.00
Medicare$41.83$1,087.50
Additional Medicare$0.00$0.00
State income tax$0.00$0.00
Total withheld$515.68$13,407.50
Take-home pay$2,368.94$61,592.50

Line 1g on that return is $8,600 for single and $12,900 for married filing jointly. Those are withholding worksheet amounts, not the standard deduction used on a Form 1040. The self-employment calculators on this site use the Form 1040 standard deduction and should not be used to estimate a W-2 paycheck.

Social Security, Medicare, and the wage base

Employee Social Security is 6.2% up to $184,500. The most Social Security an employee pays in 2026, at that cap, is $11,439.00 for the year. Medicare is 1.45% with no wage cap. Additional Medicare is 0.9% on wages over $200,000, starting in the paycheck that crosses the threshold. Enter year-to-date gross if you want that specific paycheck instead of the average.

How to use the result

If the gross pay started as an hourly rate, the hourly to salary calculator shows the same annual, monthly, and weekly gross without tax. The salary to hourly calculator goes the other way. A 1099 estimate belongs on the 1099 tax calculator, not here.

Disclaimer

AuraCalcs provides estimates for informational and educational purposes only. Results use the 2026 payroll withholding methods published by the IRS and the listed state agencies and may differ from your actual paycheck, which depends on your employer's payroll system, your Form W-4 and state withholding forms, benefits elections and other factors. This is not tax, legal or financial advice. Verify with your employer's payroll department, the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator, or a qualified tax professional. The paycheck calculators estimate federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, Additional Medicare, and state withholding for the states on these pages. They are not a bill, a filing, or a determination of tax owed.

Frequently asked questions

Which taxes does the paycheck calculator estimate?
Federal income tax under the 2026 Publication 15-T percentage method, employee Social Security, Medicare, Additional Medicare, and state withholding for California, New York, Illinois, Texas, or Florida. Texas and Florida state income tax is $0.00. Local tax is included only for New York City and Yonkers.
Why can the federal amount differ from my stub by a few dollars?
This page annualizes the wage and uses the percentage-method tables. Many payroll systems use wage-bracket tables, which pick a band instead of your exact wage. The difference is expected. It is still an estimate, and it is not a filing.
When does Additional Medicare start?
In the paycheck where year-to-date Medicare wages go over $200,000. The rate is 0.9%. Leave year-to-date blank to see the full-year tax divided by every paycheck.
What does the W-4 Step 2 checkbox do here?
It switches to the Step 2 percentage table and sets worksheet line 1g to $0. Leave it off unless that box is checked on your Form W-4.
Which states have a full page?
California, New York, Illinois, Texas, and Florida. The selector above estimates the same states. Each guide names the publication it uses.
Does no state income tax in Texas or Florida mean no taxes?
No. Federal income tax, Social Security at 6.2% up to $184,500, and Medicare at 1.45% still apply. The calculator does not estimate an employee disability deduction for those states, and it does not claim the deduction is zero.
